The lighting in the opening of push starts off light but then turns into mostly dark depressing colours, there aren't any bright lights shown in the film, keeping that gloomy feeling among the audience. As the pictures and videos go on with the narrators talk, the lighting gives them that sad, depressing look and also shows the way the producers want this movie to be.
In one of the videos shown, a lady speaks about her traumatic experience, the lighting doesn't show any of her facial features and is like a shadow, saying "They have already began to control my mind." The way the director made the lady look disheartening- putting this in dark lighting- makes the audience feel depressed and saddened about the situation. Another example would be when crowds of people where running and the lighting only gives off half of the people, the rest are seen as shadows, giving off that distressed feeling.
The director also made this opening depressing, by making the pictures dark, giving off almost no light at all. The purpose to this, is to build up the miserable theme that the director have going on, but also making it exciting, so the audience keeps on watching.
